Keep Toast, Clover, or Square. Still get the processing fees reviewed.

If you run a restaurant or shop in Fort Mill, Charlotte, or anywhere in the Carolinas, the POS often is the processor in your head. Toast. Clover. Square. The quote bundled them. Staff already know the buttons. The last thing you want is a rate review that starts with ripping the system out.

You do not have to do that to find out what you pay.

POS and processing are bundled on the sales quote. They are not the same thing in the statement. The bill you already get still has markup, monthly junk, and a mix of card types. Those lines can be reviewed without touching the terminals, the menu, or how tickets close.

Trailblaze is independent payment-processing review. We do not sell a POS. We do not require a processor switch. We do not require a software or equipment change. Ryan Bates has about 15 years in payments. The work starts with last month's export.

What you do not have to change

  • Terminals and handhelds

  • Menu, items, or modifiers

  • Staff workflow and training

  • The bank account that receives payouts

  • The processor name on the statement

If someone says the only way to lower Toast processing fees is a new system, that is a sales motion. Sometimes a new setup is the right call for operations. It is not required to read the fees. Same for Clover and Square.

What a statement review actually looks at

We are not ranking Toast vs. Clover vs. Square. We are not handing you a switch-to-X table. We look at the bill you already receive:

  • Effective rate. Total processing cost divided by card sales. That is the number that hit the account, not the rate on the original quote.

  • Markup vs. not-negotiable. Interchange and most network fees are not negotiable. Markup often is. Monthly junk (PCI, statement, batch, regulatory, non-compliance) is worth circling when you cannot explain it in one sentence.

  • Card mix. Rewards, debit, keyed-in, and card-not-present do not cost the same. A blended number can hide that.

How those pieces fit together is in how to lower processing fees without switching. The process (send a statement, get a plain-English read, talk to the processor you already have only if it is worth it) is on how it works.

Why integrated systems stay put

A lot of restaurants, practices, and shops are locked to one POS because the software, the hardware lease, and the processing sit in one agreement. That is exactly why you review in place. Looking at a statement does not break a lease. It does not migrate data. It does not retrain Friday night staff.

If you are mid-term or the POS and processing are tied together, read under contract, no switch required. If the pricing is already competitive, a real review says that too. We will tell you if the rates are already fair.

We do not guarantee savings. We do not tell you that every line on a Toast, Clover, or Square statement can be negotiated. Some of it cannot.

After the read

If nothing is worth pushing, you keep the system and you have the number. No required monitoring. If you want a watchdog later, monitoring is $49 per MID per month, cancel anytime. That is a published flat fee, not a cut of whatever someone labels savings. Contingency vs. $49 explains the difference.

Keep the POS. Send the statement. We will tell you whether a conversation with the processor you already have is even worth it.
